Where does the name Redditch come from?

A

The original name was Red-dyche and it took its name from brooks and streams in the area which ran through red marl which stained the water.

Are there any famous people born in Redditch?

A

Probably the most famous are John Bonham, Led Zeppelin’s drummer  who was born in 1948 and the actor, screenwriter, director Charles Dance who was born in 1946.

Yes. It was the principal manufacturer in the world of needles and fish-hooks and it was also known throughout the world for the manufacture of springs, motorcycles and ni-cd batteries.
